My Journey
My Journey
I never dreamed about being a photographer when I was young. There weren’t any photographers in my family, and no one gifted me a hand-me-down camera that suddenly sparked my creative career. But I was always artistically inclined. I knew I wanted to tell stories, and I had a curiosity for the world. As a kid, I often documented family trips and life at home on my little purple point-and-shoot.
It’s not surprising then that I started my career in journalism. And I’m forever grateful that I did, because it led me to where I am today.
I spent 10 years in the journalism industry, working everywhere from small newspapers to the national public broadcaster. My fondest memories are from my two and a half years living in Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories. It’s where I really cut my teeth as a reporter, learning the power of storytelling and building some of my most cherished, lifelong friendships. It’s also where my love of photography blossomed, while out photographing people and places as part of the job.
